Yet another injury. How surprising. Joining the medical sidelines, we now have a substantial number of first team key players out- Debuchy, Ramsey, Arteta (lucky he's coming back soon), Walcott, Gnabry and Ozil.
Considering that Walcott, Gnabry and Arteta are returning soon, and they might be available for the home game at the ever-brilliant Emirates Stadium for the Hull City game, it somewhat makes things a little better.
Big question is. Who should replace Mesut Ozil now that reports are suggesting he may be out for 2 freaking months. Many names- Cazorla, Wilshere, Rosicky, Oxlade Chamberlain have all been possible candidates. Some have mentioned Ozil's injury may be a blessing in disguise because of his knack of fading away in games that matters. Ozil seems the sort that will produce a sudden piece of magic to unlock defence, but he's always being dispossessed against teams that employ high aggression and pressure to take the ball away from him. It also doesn't help that he's not that physically built to cope with big burly opponents. However, what he does well is in his central positon, where, given time and space, he can work his magic to feed balls to our attackers, and he passes very accurately too as seen by the statistics from here: http://www.goal.com/en-sg/news/3991/premier-league/2014/10/09/5168929/how-much-will-arsenal-really-miss-ozil?ICID=PP_13745.
He has a passing accuracy in the opponent's territory at 88%, compared with Ramsey's 82%, Wilshere's 80%, Ox's 78% and Cazorla's 86%. Only Rosicky's 92% triumphs them all but he has made fewer passes and so the percentage accuracy is naturally higher with the much fewer passes he has made as he has played little.
These are my thoughts:
Cazorla--- Retains the ball really well and has proven in the last season that he gels well with the attackers up front in link-up play. He has quick feet, can play comfortably with both legs, able to squeeze out of close encounters against opponents, can score pretty nice goals from distance. He seems to be the player that will most suit to replace Ozil. In fact, if he grabs the opportunity with his starts, he may very well keep Ozil on his toes.
Wilshere- Evidently, he is great as he has the courage to run at defenders and makes good dribbles against opponents. He seems to be able to give that surge of energy that propels the team forward when they are playing languidly. However, he has not played in this position often but it is because of his amazing drives at opponents that make him suited to playing a bit behind the No.10 position. Arsene Wenger has also hinted that he wants to mould Jack into a more defensive type of player, think Andrea Pirlo (Defensively astute yet makes great passes which Wilshere is capable of). Wilshere has himself also said that he is studying players like Pirlo and Mascherano with astute defensive capabilities. As such, him playing the "Ozil" role might not be a good fit in the team dynamics.
Rambo- Hasn't rediscovered his breathtaking form last season when he single-handedly won games for us. His passes hasn't been of his quality yet but he has the mental capacity to score in times when it is deadlocked which is a invaluable trait. Seeing that his passes are yet to reach his own expected levels, he may try the No.10 role although I think he is more suited behind the No.10.
Ox- First thing that comes into my mind is his runs, like Wilshere's. Dashes towards the opponents are really extremely pacey and he strikes fears into defenders. He is willing to track back to defend as well as seen when he plays on the right. However, his passes have to be of a good quality to work.
Rosicky- Also willing to run at defence but age has caught up and he sometimes loses the ball easily. He can playmake decently but other than that, I know not much about Rosicky as I haven't seen him play many times this season. Can't really make a judgement on him.
As such, Cazorla may be the man to replace Ozil. I feel Oxlade-Chamberlain could be given chances to star in that position for a few games and see how it goes since Walcott is returning and he can take Ox's natural position on the right flank.
My favoured starting line-up for now:
(4-2-3-1): Szczesny - Gibbs, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Chambers - Wilshere, Flamini - Sanchez (on the left), Cazorla (No.10), Walcott (on the right) - Welbeck.
Tell me your preferred line up folks. Till next time Arsenal Faithfulls.
